The artist has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the MVT, which works to save the UK's independent music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his third album the album was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots played in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," said Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

He also took part, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous local spots across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from concerts in big venues helps the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

The musician is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize funds to worthy causes.

Back when they earned the prize in 1996 for their release Different Class, lead singer Cocker declared that the band would donate their prize money to the charity War Child.

That year, musician the artist split her award across multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

In recent years, the band gave their prize money to the community center that nurtured their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People donated their award to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in the city and the other in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
